Now I know eyelash extensions are all the rage right now, but I’ve come to the conclusion that hey are just not right for me. They can look amazing, but everyone I know personally that’s done them and reading people’s experiences online: you sort of become addicted to them. Not really, but they will cause your own eyelashes to fall out or break so you’ll keep getting them so you have eyelashes at all. It’s expensive for how often you have to go and some people definitely get carried away with their extensions and end up with what looks like a black caterpillar hanging out on their eyelid. Overall, it’s just too high maintenance for me… which is saying a lot, I know. So, when I saw people talking about lash lifting and tinting – I was intrigued.
A lash lift uses chemicals to curl your eyelashes up towards your brows. This will make your eyelashes more noticeable and longer, sort of like when you use an eyelash curler. A lash tint is similar to a brow tint. It makes your own eyelashes look darker, thicker, and fuller. Essentially, it just enhances what you’re already working with. The best part? A lash lift and tint lasts about 6-8 weeks, about double the amount of lash extensions.
Your own lash length, density, and direction will affect how dramatic your results are – but they should still be noticeable to begin with, even if you’re already blessed with dark, thick lashes that curl upward. The whole treatment takes about an hour for the lift portion and 15 minutes for the tint. Afterward, you need to keep your lashes dry for 24 hours but otherwise can return back to day-to-day life. The chemicals responsible for the lift will continue to work their magic for that period of time.
Below are my results, which I’m quite happy with. These are with no other makeup on, including mascara. My esthetician asked if I was more interested in longer lashes or if I’d prefer them more curled and I went with curled, so they’re more noticeable with my eyes open. She also tinted my bottom lashes, which she mentioned is something that not all aestheticians do, but I’m glad she did!
The top image is in the car at the appointment and the bottom is at home the following morning. Definitely a difference! I’m very happy with the results and I plan to get another lift/tint when the effects of this one fades. Below is after a few weeks with just mascara applied.
Have you gotten a lash lift? Would you? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
