If you’re on social media at all, especially TikTok, you’ve probably seen the ins and out trend going around. I thought this seemed fun and wanted to put together my own list of things that resonated with me. As we head into 2024, it’s time to reevaluate our habits and make intentional choices that contribute to a more fulfilling and balanced life. From cultivating positive routines to letting go of habits that no longer serve us, here’s my picks for the ins and outs for navigating the new year.

In:

  1. Good Routines (Skincare, Fitness, Diet, General): Establishing a set of positive daily habits can significantly impact our overall well-being. Whether it’s a consistent skincare routine, regular exercise, mindful eating, or cultivating positive daily rituals, these practices set the tone for a healthier and more balanced life.
  2. Getting Your Steps In: Incorporating more movement into our daily lives will have a positive impact. Take advantage of the picturesque parks and trails or even just adding a morning walk around your neighborhood to get those steps in and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.
  3. Traveling More, Even if It’s a Staycation: Embrace the spirit of exploration right in your own backyard. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a staycation, make an effort to break away from the routine and discover the hidden gems in your city.
  4. Being Self-Aware: Cultivate self-awareness by regularly reflecting on your thoughts, emotions, and actions. Understanding yourself better empowers you to make more informed decisions and navigate life with a greater sense of purpose.
  5. Cooking More: There’s something special about preparing your own meals. Dive into the culinary world, experiment with new recipes, and savor the joy of homemade dishes.
  6. Minimal or No-Screen Days: Disconnect to reconnect. Designate days where you minimize screen time to foster meaningful connections, both with others and with yourself.
  7. Solo Dates: Take yourself out on a date and enjoy your own company. Whether it’s a solo hike, a movie night, or a cozy dinner, solo dates are an opportunity for self-discovery and self-love.

Out:

  4. Negative Self-Talk: Challenge negative thoughts and replace them with affirming and positive statements. Cultivating self-compassion is a journey towards improved mental well-being.
  5. Telling Anyone Repeatedly How They Should Treat You: Instead of focusing on external validation, set clear boundaries and lead by example. Your actions speak volumes about how you expect to be treated.
  6. Adding to Your Debts: Financial freedom starts with responsible money management. Avoid accumulating unnecessary debt and work towards achieving financial goals that align with your values.
  7. People Pleasing: It’s time to prioritize your own needs and desires without constantly seeking approval from others. Authenticity is a magnet for genuine connections.
  8. Clutter: Declutter your physical and mental space. Simplify your surroundings to create a more organized and peaceful environment.
  9. Going Out Every Weekend: While the vibrant Austin nightlife is tempting, balance is key. Allocate weekends for rest, relaxation, and pursuing activities that bring you joy.
  10. Hangovers: Opt for mindful and moderate consumption. Embrace a lifestyle that allows you to enjoy socializing without the aftermath of a hangover.
