I have to admit that retail therapy is usually my go-to pick me up or cure for boredom, but it’s not usually the best use of my money. I’ve been making a conscious effort to be more mindful of how and what I’m spending money on. So, if you’re like me and are trying to curb your spending, I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite ways to pamper and treat myself without spending a ton of money.
Have a spa night at home
Draw a bubble bath, play some tunes, and relax for a little bit. This is a great time to try a new sheet mask or hair mask while you soak in the tub. You could even indulge in some guilty pleasure movies or TV shows that you’ve been meaning to catch up on.
Paint your own nails
I love getting a mani/pedi just as much as the next person, but many times I’d just rather use that money for something else. At the beginning of this year, I got the Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Nail Coat and it’s been a lifesaver. It 100% speeds up the drying process and makes doing your nails at home way easier.
Reread a book you already own
Instead of buying a brand new book, try rereading a book that hasn’t gotten any love for a few years. I greatly enjoy the nostalgia that comes with rereading a book, too. My favorite series to return to every once in a while is definitely the Harry Potter series… shocking, I know! And if you really must get a new book, check out eBay or Amazon for used versions for less or hit up our local library!
Light some candles
I’m not sure why, but lighting some candles just puts me in a better mood. The smell and the ambience just do it for me.
Have a dinner favorite
Make a night of it and cook yourself [and a friend or significant other] one of your favorite meals OR grab some carry out to save on the tip and drink costs. This one can greatly depend on what kind of mood you’re in, but both are fantastic ways to treat yo self!
Try a new makeup look
If you’re a makeup lover, try out a new look using things from your own collection! I know how tempting it is to have the latest releases, but you’d be surprised what you already own and have probably overlooked.
Go for a walk
Get out of the house and enjoy some alone time with nature, even if it’s just around your neighborhood with your dogs.
Have dedicated pet time
If you’re an animal lover, I bet that you wish you had more time to dedicate to them. Here’s a great excuse to do so! I’ll take them to the dog park, sit outside with them, play with them, or even give them a bath… granted they aren’t huge fans of the last one while actually getting the bath, but they sure feel good afterwards!
Reorganize or redecorate a room
Sometimes a room refresh can happen with getting additional items! You can rearrange your furniture and give everything a good cleaning, too. I always feel accomplished when I get a chance to get my space just how I like it.
Call a friend or family member
Take some time to give a friend or family member a call and catch up. I know life gets busy and it’s easy to fall out of touch. Schedule some time or even call on a whim and just let them know you’re thinking of them. Trust me, it means a lot!
Well, there you have it! Those are ten ways that I tend to treat myself without spending money. I’d love to hear any of your ideas, I know I’ve probably missed some good ones!
